Investigation- water pollution
We have many beautiful water ways in Australia that unfortunately get polluted. Let's see how this happens.
1. Fill a sink/tray with water.
2. Add a few rocks/shells.
3. Add a boat or something that you can use as a boat.
4. Add some small pieces of paper, plastic, bottles tops, straws or any other pieces of rubbish.
5. Add some food colouring near the boat to indicate an oil leak.
What has happened to the clean water you started with? How can we stop our water ways becoming polluted?
Send your teacher a photo of your polluted waterway.

- Draw a hopscotch grid on the ground.
- Throw that object on square 1
- Player 1 will start off by hopping over square 1 directly to square 2. From square 2 to square 10, he/she will follow the numbered sequence. After Player 1 reaches square 10, he/she will turn around and proceed to hop back in reverse until he/she reaches square 2
- When Player 1 reaches square 2, he/she will pick up the object that landed on square 1, hop on square 1 and exit the numbered grid/field
- Player 1 will continue the game by throwing the object on square 2 this time and repeating the above steps.
- Player 1 will fail the game under the following conditions:

This investigation requires the use of boiling water and must be done under adult supervision.
Materials
Glass Jar with a Lid (we used a pint mason jar) 1 cup Hot Boiling Water Blue Food Coloring (optional) Aerosol Hairspray 3-5 cubes of Ice |
Instructions
1. Pour 1 cup of hot boiling water into a glass jar.Helpful Tip: Use food coloring to dye the water blue before pouring it into the jar. This is not required, but does help distinguish the cloud from the water. Plus, it makes the water look like the sky. 2. Quickly spray hairspray into the jar. 3. Immediately put the lid onto the jar. Helpful Tip: This step must be performed quickly, so have the lid handy. It also helps to have multiple people doing the experiment. One to spray the hairspray and one to put on the lid. 4. Place a 3-5 pieces of ice on top of the lid of the jar. 5. Watch the top of the jar carefully and you will see a cloud begin to form. 6. After observing the cloud in the jar, remove the lid and watch the cloud escape out of the jar |
